With a significant presence in five European countries and within the USA, in 2013 MBDA achieved a turnover of €3 billion with an order book of €9.8 billion. With more than 90 armed forces customers in the world, MBDA is a world leader in missiles and missile systems.
MBDA’s Within Visual Range Dominance Weapon, ASRAAM, is currently being integrated as part of the F-35 JSF SDD programme. Following on from SDD, MBDA’s Meteor ramjet powered Beyond Visual Range Air-to-Air Missile, the new precision effects air-to-ground weapon SPEAR and finally the Storm Shadow long range deep strike missile are planned for integration.
The Company is currently under contract to support Lockheed Martin, via BAE Systems, with the integration and clearance of ASRAAM on the F-35 with the first flight of the weapon on the aircraft expected in the next few months.
MBDA’s objective is to support Team JSF with producing the best integration solution for these new weapons in terms of carriage, release, system integration, weapon operations and performance.
Historically, MBDA has extensive experience of the development and integration of air launched weapon systems onto both European and US aircraft. ASRAAM, for example has already been integrated with the Tornado, Eurofighter, Jaguar, F-16 and F/A-18 aircraft. MBDA’s experience reflects the use of advanced modelling techniques, wind tunnel testing and trials to streamline and reduce the costs of weapons integration programmes.
MBDA is able to offer advanced, networked weapons to all F-35 Lightning II users, with new 21st Century capability that best matches the performance of this true 5th generation aircraft.
